Magnesium and Intelligence

Pupils with mental handicap should be provided with
magnesium preparations because their effects are highly positive.

Papadopol et al. in Romania compared the Intelligence Quota (IQ) of children growing up at home compared with the IQ of children growing up in a stressful orphanage. Stress hormones from stress of orphanage living drove down intracellular magnesium so severely that orphans lost much of their IQ.

Figure 2. Distortion in children’s IQ attributed to stress-induced damage to intracellular magnesium in institutionalized homes vs. home living – from Papadopol. Note the effect of stress-induced magnesium deficiency on the IQ of children.  This is a world-class catastrophe and is happening to a certain extent by American schools. The more stress they pile on the more kids’ IQ goes down because they are running the body down further in magnesium.

Nutritional variables exert a substantial
influence on learning and behavior.

“Magnesium deficiency in children is characterized by excessive fidgeting, anxious restlessness, psychomotor instability and learning difficulties in the presence of normal IQ,” said Dr. Mildred Seelig.

Back in my college days at ASU I came across a book entitled ‘Legal Highs’. In this book was a formula for mixing Phillip’s Milk of Magnesia with other substances to make a study aid. Sounds crazy, and when I mentioned it to my Organic Chemistry proffessor he kind of went off on my lack of common sence.

However, the article (if I remember correctly) gave human experimental evidence that sounded credible. OK, laugh if you want. This world despirately needs people to think more effectively.

If nothing here makes sence, are there any reccomended intelligence enhancers?
    Thanks,
    DL

My twelve year old daughter is currently taking L-Threonate magnesium for cognitive and memory function. Is it okay for her to use the magnesium chloride spray as well? Does transdermal magnesium reach the blood brain barrier as Threonate is reported to do? Thank you!

    Dear Lauryn,

If you use the magnesium oil applied transdermmally you will probably find that you do not need the currently used amount of the oral supplement. Magnesium distributes to all parts of the body including the brain.
